Day Trip To pajinka - Indigenous led

The experience

The cultural tour to Pajinka is a journey to the Tip, the most northerly point of the Australian mainland. The tour has been developed in consultation with Traditional Owners of the land to ensure authenticity and accuracy. Travel through Cape York Peninsula country while learning about the establishment of Bamaga and viewing historical sites including the ruins, graves and memorial of Somerset, the earliest permanent European settlement on the Peninsula.

You’ll visit a WWII wreckage and the ruins of the Pajinka Resort while travelling through the most northern rainforest in Australia, home to plants and animals normally only found in Papua New Guinea. Subject to availability, you may also be treated to insights from a Traditional Owner accompanying the trip. Upon arrival at Pajinka, embark on a 20-minute unpaved walk along a rocky outcrop where you will then take in unparalleled views, so keep your eyes peeled for turtles and pods of dolphins. Once you’ve returned from your visit to the iconic site, enjoy a packed lunch at a nearby beach.

other Cultural experiences

Cape York Peninsula is highly regarded for its strong, rich culture of the Aboriginal people and their Islander neighbours of the Torres Strait. Vibrant and diverse, the region offers opportunities to absorb and connect with the rhythms of this ancient land and people.

The Lodge regularly hosts performances from Naygayiw Gigi and other local cultural groups for guests and tour groups.

Naygayiw Gigi is an award-winning, traditional Torres Strait Island dance troupe that has performed at national and international events. Their performances are interactive and tell the story of how their people came to the Northern Peninsula Area, while educating audiences about their history and languages, the meaning of dance and the significance of costumes, props and musical instruments.

If you’re interested in seeing a performance, click the below link to book from a range of dates.
